The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15UTI (NATO reporting name: 'Midget') is a two-seat, dual-control MiG-15 jet trainer developed by Mikoyan-Gurevich OKB. The MiG-15UTI had its roots in the flight training system developed in the Soviet Union in the 1930s, in which a two-seat variant of a combat aircraft is used as the lead-in trainer before conversion to the single-seat version. It remained the sole Warsaw Pact advanced jet trainer well into the 1970s, because Mikoyan-Gurevich never mass-produced the transition training versions of the later MiG-17 'Fresco' or MiG-19 'Farmer'. The MiG-15UTI had good flight characteristics; with the Klimov RD-45F engine it produces up to 5,000 pounds of thrust, enabling level speed at sea level to reach 1,050 km/h. A noticeable change from the MiG-15 is tandem cabins with two-piece canopies. Some variants produced from the MiG-15bis fitted the Klimov VK-1A engine with thrust increased to 5,900 pounds for better performing manoeuvres, but the new engine has a higher fuel combustion rate and less internal fuel tank capacity, which reduces flight endurance and range. Other modifications include hydro-booster aileron control to help the aircraft keep a high roll rate when manoeuvring. It also has modified avionics for communication and navigation, similar to the MiG-17 and MiG-19. The MiG-15UTI had been operated by military aviation users in most Communist satellite nations when it finally retired during the 1990s. Some aircraft sold to civil aviation owners in a new role become part of the international 'Warbird' scene. Now Bear Studios takes this flight legend aircraft into MSFS world! Features
